Choir

Choir “Boyan” is founded in 1946 by the conductor Volodymyr Panasyuk. From 1947 till 1996 year Eugene Vakhnyak – an outstanding choral master - was unchangeable leader of the choir. From 1964 Yaroslav Baziv conducts the group; Daria Dovbenko is an accompanist. The choir becomes popular in Ukraine and also in Formal Republics of USSR, records several audiodiscs, becomes the prize winner of International Choral Festival “Tallinn-75”, achieves the title “Honoured Choir of Ukraine” under the direction of Eugene Vakhnyak. In 1991 went on a concert tour through the cities of Yugoslavia.

In 1996 year “Boyan” took part in the solemn celebration of 400-years of Union of Brest which took place in Rome, and was a participant of joint choir during the Holy Mass which was headed by Pope John Paul II.

From 1996 till 2003 different conductors of Lviv work with the choir (such as Yaroslav Baziv, Yaroslav Hnatovskyi and Oleh Tsyhylyk), who continue to develop choral traditions. The choir becomes the prize winner of different prestigious international choral festivals and competitions in Ukraine, Swiss, Greece, Spain and Germany.

From November 2003 the choir is headed by Vasyl Chuchman. As the conductor work Adriana Chuchman, accompanist – Solomiya Savruk. “Boyan” performed in Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Check Republic, Montenegro and also took part in music festivals and competitions in Great Britain, Netherlands and Finland.

“Boyan” cooperates with different soloists, conductors, orchestras and choral groups from Ukraine and from abroad. Within this cooperation there are many different tours with joint concerts and workshops.

Starting from 1948 year the choir exists at the House of Culture of telecommunication employees of Lviv department “Ukrtelecom”, which actively support creative activity of “Boyan”. The choir consists of telecommunication employees and there are also pedagogues, doctors, engineers, workers, students and even military people. They gather because of the love to choral singing.
The present repertoire includes music of Ukrainian and foreign composers from various ages, Christmas songs, liturgies and also different Ukrainian folk songs. The list of songs increases all the time. Special attention is paid to works of Ukrainian composers.
